There’s so much to love about fall, and only a few months to do it in. From comfy temperatures and foliage to hot cider and apple picking, it’s some of the most fun all year. The only trouble is, before you know it, it’s over and we’re deep into the holidays. But there is one aspect of the season that you can take with you into the rest of the year: fall bags.
And this year happens to have some incredible ones. The trends in particular — shearling, croc and asymmetrical shapes — have real staying power.
Croc: It’s one of those classics that never truly goes away, but just comes back around in more creative iterations. This time around it comes in all kinds of shapes and decked out with details. For example, from Cuyana — a favorite of Meghan Markle for their easy, modern cross-body design — comes the Croc-Embossed Half-Moon Mini Bag ($395 on cuyana.com). The bags are extremely well made and are very go-anywhere, do-anything.
For pure visual impact, I’m also loving By Far’s Croc-Embossed Ball Clutch ($560 on intermixonline.com). The structured shape is made of gorgeous leather and suede in Spain, and takes advantage of the mini bag trend while bringing in simply beautiful materials. If you’re up for more of a splurge-y investment piece, consider Chloe’s Medium Aby Croc Embossed Calfskin Shoulder Bag ($2650 on nordstrom.com). Its roomy interior and croc-embossed calfskin is constructed to last decades, while its trapezoidal shape is both of-the-moment and timeless.
Asymmetrical: Moving from croc into this category, it’s hard to ignore one bag that hits on both trends with aplomb: Khaore’s Athaarah Croc-Embossed Leather Clutch ($475 on intermixonline.com) is one of the coolest around. Its eye-catching geometric presence is made even prettier in an emerald green croc-embossed leather, and a cut-out clutch handle.
For that kind of big style on a slim budget, the Star Snakeskin Print Shoulder Bag by Topshop ($40 on nordstrom.com) is a can’t-miss. Wear its funky asymmetry, chain accent and two-toned faux leather snakeskin anywhere from daytime luncheons to date night.
Shearling: One of the cozier things to carry this fall, the Grace Shearling Top Handle Bag by Staud ($275 at modaoperandi.com) is both soft and plush, and ready for any outfit with its creamy color.
And it’s hard not to covet the Shearling Mini Bucket Bag by Mansur Gavriel ($595 on mansurgavriel.com), too. Its Italian shearling with lamb interior comes in a bucket bag shape that carries more than its mini size lets on. And in a handful of colors, it complements looks in fall jewel tones as well as (hint, hint) holiday looks.
