MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - "Dancing with our Stars Marquette County Style" couples are back and ready to hit the stage for another year of dancing, fun and giving back to the UP Hospice foundation.
"When Lindsay approached me, and asked me to do this I was so excited. It's such an amazing event and it has such notoriety I was like yes, hands down we're doing it,” said Tristan Luoma and Taylor Kulju, one of the competing couples.
Kulju just faced one problem.
"I just needed to find a partner,” she explained.
Luckily, Luoma agreed, and is excited to dance onstage with Kulju.
"I think it's kind of syncing in now that it's actually happening, and we're kicking off tonight and I'm feeling good about it,” said Luoma.
The couple does admit they're nervous, but they will rely on each for comfort.
"I think that we have a strong friendship, and I think that we will support each other,” explained Kulju.
At Tuesday’s Annual Reveal Party, organizers announced this year's theme will be the super hero and villain edition.
The eight competing couples are required to showcase their best version of this theme through characters like The Joker and Harley Quinn through the use of "hip hop" or contemporary dance styles in their performance.
"Every year, we try to spice things up a little bit. We come up with a different theme so the audiences aren't just watching the same dance styles year after year but a completely different theme,” said Lindsay Hemmila, the event organizer.
Styles like the Paso Doble and East Coast Swing also will be included.
Over the years, “Dancing with our Stars Marquette County Style” raised more than $500,000 to support hospice patients and families.
"It's just a huge testament to the Marquette County community, and how giving they are,” explained Hemmila.
"Dancing with our Stars Marquette County Style" will feature two nights of performance on Wednesday, May 20 and Thursday, May 21.
